Mammography
A mammography exam (i.e. a mammogram) is specialised medical imaging to x-ray breast tissue which can aid in detecting and diagnosing breast cancer in women. A mammogram involves the breasts being gently compressed between two firm surfaces in order to spread out the breast tissue so that an x-ray can capture the images.
Preparation
We will advise you of any necessary preparation prior to your scan.
The following is a summary of general preparations required for a mammogram.
Please do not wear deodorants/ powders/ lotions/ creams or perfumes under your arms or on your breasts (as potential metallic particles in these products could be visible on your mammogram and cause confusion).
Please wear two-piece clothing (i.e. separate top and bottom).
Duration
A mammogram can generally take around 30 minutes. Additional time will be required where an ultrasound is requested following the mammogram.
